Many businesses use abrasive techniques such as blasting which although produce great results, may cause damage to the stone being cleaned as well as the surrounding area. That's why it is really important to conduct a thorough evaluation of the building before we commence any work to identify the type of stone present and determine the most appropriate method of cleaning. We use the most up to date techniques and systems to carry out the required cleaning work and only provide the most highly skilled and experienced stonemasons. Experience is absolutely essential particularly when it comes to cleaning as we need to ensure that surrounding stone is protected from the cleaning process. We will work neatly and ensure that there is as little disruption to your home or business as quickly as possible without compromising on the quality of the finished result.
Depending on the severity of the building or structure we may for example decide to use a steam system to remove dirt but the way in which the steam is applied can also be varied to suit the type of stone and objectives of the cleaning task. We have worked on hundreds of cleaning projects over the years adapting our cleaning processes and techniques to complete work on natural stone, marble, listed buildings and facades.
Neolith cleaning is a specially formulated treatment to alleviate problems caused by carbon, oils and grease which may be prevalent on stonemasonry. This treatment is also effective on paint, slowly removing paint film without damaging the underlying stone. This is also used as a preparation applied to stonemasonry before the use of cleaning solutions containing acid, enhancing the level of cleaning and ultimately the end result.
Another treatment that we offer is nebulous spray treatment which involves the application of an intermittent mist in spray form to the stone. During this treatment we will carefully use a low pressure spray which gently softens the dirt from the surface enabling is to be carefully scrubbed away using a special tool. This is one of the preferred methods of Pressure washing treatments because it carries out the work without saturating the stone, which can in turn lead to further problems.
Alternatively, there is the JOS system which is one of the more gentle methods of cleaning stonemasonry as it protects the stone while effectively eliminating and lifting dirt, sulphur deposits and general dirt from stone, concrete or brickwork. What's more it is often one of the preferred cleaning methods because it is completely chemical free using a combination of water, air and a mild abrasive powder, applied using low pressure. We use the right tools and change these depending on the detail of the design and prevalence of corners or other pieces of intricately carved stone.
